Kindergarten

The Sacred Heart School of Glyndon Kindergarten program is highly academic while also nurturing each child’s social development through the use of centers and structured, creative play.  The curriculum is based on the Archdiocese of Baltimore Course of Study and is as follows:

Language Arts- The children are provided phonics skills, high frequency words, vocabulary and literature through the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Series.  There is also small group instruction through reading groups, and children are grouped by ability and are reading books accordingly.

Mathematics- Students learn sorting, shapes, numbers 0-50, position words, comparing sets, graphing, measurement, place value and addition and subtraction.

Religion- Students learn their relationship with God, their family and their world.  They also attend Mass frequently and get to plan and read at one Mass a year.

Social Studies- Students learn about family, school life, holidays, transportation and community helpers.

Science- Our school-wide Lab Learner curriculum encompasses continuous spiral review of learning through hands-on experiments and activities.

Handwriting- The Zaner-Bloser Handwriting program is followed to formally learn the proper way to write letters and numbers.
