Admissions/Application Process

Welcome to the admissions page for The Sacred Heart School of Glyndon! We are so glad you are here!

Selecting a school for your child/children is an incredibly important task and we are here to help make that process as easy as possible.

The first step is to plan a visit. We host Open Houses in the fall and winter and often post invitations to visit our school for special events such as Cookies and Crafts or Storytime for Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten age children and their families. You will find those dates posted on our website under Latest News (click on the crest above or our school name above to be taken directly to our home page) and on our Facebook page.

Incoming students for our mixed-aged Pre-kindergarten program must turn three or four years old, respectively, by September 1st. Additionally, all incoming Kindergarten students must be five years of age by September 1st for the 2016-2017 school year.

If the open house dates aren’t convenient for you, simply call the school at 410-833-0857 to arrange a private tour. Either way, your visit will include a personal tour of our beautiful campus and meticulously maintained facility. While here you will be invited to step into the classrooms to talk with our welcoming teachers and delightful students. Most tours are led by our assistant principal and director of admissions, Mrs. Jeanne Cossentino, who will provide you with information about curriculum, scheduling and our robust academic and specials programming. Additionally, you will be given all admissions and application materials and have the opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns you might have.

Once we receive your application along with the required supporting documents, your child/children will be invited in to screen with our reading/testing specialist who will administer age-appropriate assessments. Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten applicants are primarily assessed for readiness, while older students are assessed in reading, writing and mathematics to determine an appropriate instructional grouping.  Students applying for Grades Two and Three might choose to arrange a shadow day with us at the discretion of their parents. Students applying for Grades Four through Eight, however, are strongly encouraged to spend an entire day with us so that they can experience our unique community first hand. To make it most convenient for our families, we will be sure to conduct all assessments on the same day your children shadow with us. It is always our pleasure to host your child/children, and to show our appreciation, we will provide a complimentary hot lunch or snack bar coupon.  Following the shadow day, you will receive a follow-up phone call from our director of admissions to discuss how your child enjoyed his/her day with us and to share screening results with you. Soon after, an offer of admission will be made and enrollment processing will take place.

We hope you find our admissions process to be simple, fruitful and enjoyable. We welcome the opportunity to get to know you and your child/children and to journey with you as we work together to develop the unique, God-given gifts of each student in a safe, nurturing and diverse environment, through innovative academics, service to others, and spiritual preparation for a fulfilling life that follows in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
