SACRED HEART SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

An important component of our Catholic school environment is the school uniform. Students are expected to comply with the school’s uniform policy by dressing appropriately for each school day. We ask parents to cooperate with us by knowing Sacred Heart’s uniform policy and by enforcing it with their children. As part of homeroom procedures, homeroom teachers will monitor student dress. If a student is determined to be inappropriately dressed, an "out of uniform" notice will be issued to the student and his/her parents. Three "unexcused" out of uniform notices will result in automatic detention for students in grades 6-8.

DISCIPLINE

Our Expectations for Christ-Centered Behavior
Sacred Heart School of Glyndon is a Catholic elementary school dedicated to the mission of bringing forth Christ to the people of our school/parish community: students, parents, teachers and the surrounding community at large. Sacred Heart school promotes the educational mission of the Catholic Church by teaching the message of the Gospel and its values, by worshipping and praying together, by serving others and by continuing to grow as a Catholic faith community.
Integral to our identity and growth as a Catholic community is our emphasis on the education of our students in terms of message, community, worship and service. By creating a Christian climate within the school among students, staff and parents, we strive to help our students to develop self-control, character, orderly conduct, a sense of values, good judgment, empathy for others, and most important, self-discipline. The essence of Christian discipline is the respect of self and others.
The message of Jesus Christ is central to all that occurs at Sacred Heart School. The prime responsibility for creating a Christian climate and fostering a spirit of community at Sacred Heart rests with the teachers and staff of the school, backed by the strong support and nurturing love of the parents of our students. Sacred Heart strives to grow as a model Catholic community where all are sensitive to, show concern for and respond to the needs of others.
At Sacred Heart School, we recognize each student as a living expression of God's love. We accept each student as intrinsically good and deserving of unconditional respect from all within the School community. We believe each student is a unique gift from God, having special talents, abilities and needs, and that we are responsible for developing and nurturing the physical, social, moral, intellectual and spiritual growth and development of each student.
We recognize individuality in students, but we stress that the actions of one impact upon all within the school community. Our goal is to teach self-discipline, rather than imposed discipline, through adherence to Gospel values and the message of Jesus Christ to love one another as we love God and ourselves. We teach and model individual responsibility and emphasize positive reinforcement rather than negative punishment.
We acknowledge that parents are the primary educators of their children and that Sacred Heart School exists to reinforce and further develop the Christian values and education that begins at home. We recognize that the School, parents, students, teachers, parish and the community at large must work together in a spirit of Christian cooperation to share the important responsibility for proper student development. Only with this strong bond can we develop the unity of school, parents and community so critical to the success of our Catholic educational mission.
Finally, we believe that learning takes place best in an atmosphere of openness, trust and mutual respect. We need the support and encouragement of all parents to meet our challenges of forming responsible, self-disciplined, independent, loving students, who are inspired to appreciate their faith in their lives, to understand community in a global as well as a local sense, to experience personal and communal prayer, and to realize that service to others is central to the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.
